  1. A New Gluten-Free Bakery in Columbus, Ohio

January 29, 2011 by Wendy Gregory Kaho

Across East Main Street from Capital University
A new gluten-free bakery opened in Central Ohio this week and I stopped in the day after the grand opening of Cherbourg Bakery to try some of their gluten-free treats. Of course, I was so excited at the prospect that I forgot my camera and so my iPhone shots will have to tempt you to Bexley to see this little gluten-free gem for yourself.

It is first an adorable, French inspired little shop and it feels so special to walk into a dedicated gluten-free bakery where every beautiful baked goodie is safe. I’ve travelled all over the country and to Europe and taken photos of cozy little gluten-free bakeries full of delectable and beautiful treats, but the thrill of finding a place in my hometown is even more special. 2. The Gluten-Free Tour of Seattle:First Stops–Suburban Bakeries

May 8, 2009 by Wendy Gregory Kaho

The first stop on my gluten-free tour of the Seattle area was a little bakery in Kent. We don’t have any dedicated gluten-free bakeries in Central Ohio, so this was a real treat. My favorite items from Haley’s Corner Bakery were their breads. The Annie’s Cheesy Garden Bread was the best. They also had savory muffins with cheese, ham, and chiles fresh out of the oven and a salami roll that was very satisfying. These gave me ideas for making savory muffins and rolls at home since I can’t pop down to Kent once a week. The seeded bread was the best gluten-free bread I’ve ever had and made excellent toast. They do have the sliced gluten-free bread recipes down to a science. These were light and tender with a “real bread” texture.

The desserts were gorgeous and would be great for special occasions. What a thoughtful way for folks to entertain their gluten-free friends. It would be so easy to get a safe dessert or some dinner breads for a guest with celiac disease.
The sight of cases full of freshly baked gluten-free goodies was worth the 5 hour flight. Their menu includes scones, biscotti, pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and take and bake pizzas.

Next stops—a gluten-free foodie tour of Pike Place Market and another gluten-free bakery.
