Gluten-Free Dining at Piada Italian Street Food

Grilled Salmon Salad shot with my iPhone

I passed Piada Italian Street Food as I was going to the Lane Avenue Starbucks before an evening class and looked it up on the Internet when I got home. The traffic going into and coming out of the front door at dinner time had me intrigued. When I saw it accused of being an Italian take on Chipotle, I wondered if I could get a gluten-free meal there, just like Chipotle. After viewing their video, I sent out a tweet asking if they could accommodate a gluten-free eater. The reply listed the safe choices and included a salad with salmon which is what I wanted to try.

Watching the video and getting advice on Twitter helped me order. I suggest that just like at Chipotle, ask them to change their gloves because they are handling bread with other orders. If you feel safe eating at a well-run Chipotle, you will see the same assembly line here. The salad greens, grilled veggies, and cheeses, along with the grilled meats were naturally gluten-free. The place was clean, and tidy with a chef on duty supervising and answering questions. There is pasta and bread in most dishes and you will have to decide if you feel safe ordering here. I like that I can see what is going on in the kitchen and watch my food being assembled unlike most restaurants. I felt comfortable eating here and had no ill effects and since I seem to be increasingly sensitive, that’s a good sign. The salmon was moist and flavorful on top of crisp mixed greens, grilled veggies, and feta with oil and vinegar at a reasonable price. It was a great place to get a quick and satisfying dinner in a hurry. It doesn’t hurt that it is close to Half Price Books and a Starbucks before class either.
